On Thought Patterns And Belief Systems…
I should have sent this letter yesterday but FUNAAB isn't smiling at the moment. Exam pressure and C.A tests tension here and there. There's also this stupid fever that doesn't know the right time to show face and even came with an accomplice (Catarrh). I hate both of them so much. Anyways, I'm dealing with them at the moment amidst preparation for exams, wish me luck.
How're you doing too? I hope you've been well. If you can see this, you can always write back to me.
I don't think I've ever told you, but the major paradigm shift in my life began in 2019. As they say, revelation is progressive; as you grow, you learn and evolve more. You must allow me to make this letter about myself.
Moving to my aunt's house after my WAEC transformed many aspects of my personality. That's where I learned to think for myself, make my own decisions, and work for money instead of relying on others. The truth is that, no matter how calm you claim to be, asking people for money comes with a sense of entitlement. When they reject you, you'll quickly label them as stingy.
That's what I've always thought. When I started working and saw how difficult it was to give out #1,000 out of my #20,000 salary, it dawned on me that those people weren't so stingy. That's not where I'm going, but I want you to understand that anything anyone does for you is a privilege, not a right, and you should be grateful for it.
Although appreciation is in levels and is relative, you should still appreciate it. Even if you worked for it, appreciate it when they reward you promptly. You won't know the value of what you have until you lose it.
Having said that, allow me to add a few more details before drawing the curtain. Some beliefs and thought patterns were very dear to you at one point in your life, and you never imagined you could outgrow them. But, here you are, I'm sure you're wondering why you ever believed in such nonsense in the first place.
That's to demonstrate how lovely growth is. Many things will change about you as you continue to grow and evolve, and that change will begin in your mind. Except if you're resistant to growth, you can't stop it. Some of what you believe now may no longer be relevant or hold much weight in 5 years.
Be open to growth because L.U.R is the code of life. It means Learning, Unlearning, and Relearning. You and I will experience a lot of those as we grow. Don't be resistant, be open to growth. You can't have some kind of thought patterns and attain some levels. So, get rid of the ones you should.
The fun fact is, the more you grow, you'll know the ones to do away with. You can choose to ignore the prompting but you'll surely know the things that don't appeal to your senses anymore.
I have to get back to reading.
Till when next I write to you,
